The UXDM Lab proudly participated in the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 2024 Symposium, held in San Francisco. PhD student Doaa Alrefaei, the first author of the study, represented the lab by presenting a poster titled “Clinical Decision Support System for Automatic Detection of Subjective Pain Intensity from Gaze Data.” This research focuses on leveraging machine learning and eye-tracking data to develop objective methods for assessing pain in clinical settings. Her first study on anxiety and reading behavior used eye-tracking to uncover distinct attention patterns in anxious readers, suggesting eye movements as potential biomarkers for anxiety. Her second study applied the UXDI framework to design a Clinical Decision Support System for chronic pain management, emphasizing an intuitive, user-centered dashboard to enhance healthcare decision-making.

Thus, examining factors that can impact the return on investment of web design are of great importance to companies. In this talk, we propose a basic model that provides a scientific framework for predicting the business value of a web design, and review the initial test of our model via an experiment using an actual live website in a Fortune 500 company.
